Maloney nearing fitness

Thankfully the former Celtic and Aston Villa forward is nearing full fitness after a spell on the sidelines and is set to be included in the Latics squad to face his former club next weekend.

"It's been a while since I was able to get 90 minutes under my belt, it felt good and it was a good game to be involved in," Maloney told the club's official website.

"I enjoyed the game and whether it's a first-team game or a reserve-team game you always give 100% to try and do something that will get you closer to the senior team."

The diminutive forward is targetting the next two home games, against Aston Villa, and Swansea as games where the Latics can pull out of the bottom three.

"We've got two home games coming up now against Aston Villa and Swansea City, and they're both very winnable if we approach them in a similar style to the Bolton game," added Maloney.

"It's imperative that we start picking up wins at the DW Stadium and we need to get three points from one of these next two games, hopefully taking something from the other as well.

"The situation at the bottom of the table is very tight right now and it would appear that any kind of win will lift a team a few spaces up the league and possibly for us out of the relegation zone altogether."
