Mahon back in training

It seems that the two week break has come at a good time for the Latics as a number of players have been carrying niggling injuries and these shall be given time to clear up.

Boss Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "I suppose only time will tell whether this break is going to be a good thing but at the moment I would say that it is a rest that the lads deserve and need. They have played a lot of matches in a very short period of time and also have some very intense occasions still ahead of them. Therefore, this break should do them good and we will allow them a little bit of time off this week before then really knuckling down again from next Monday.

"Several of the players have been carrying little knocks and this break will allow them to recover properly from these and that is certainly the case with Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington and John Filan, while several other players have also featured in every single game for us and will enjoy this rest.

"With the tempo we try to play at their rest becomes even more important and that is why we are having a gentle week this week and why we may also give them this weekend off. However, they will have a hard session at the end of the week before going away for a couple of days just so that their focus remains in tact.

"This break should also see our injured players getting back towards full fitness and though Emerson Thome has still got a fair bit of work to do, Alan Mahon is back in full training now and has taken part again this morning. It will be good to have him back as he gives us yet another option and you cannot have enough options available to you.

"All in all I feel that we are looking in good shape ahead of what are going to be seven massive matches for this club. We are all focused on the job that we have to do and though this week we will allow the players to relax and recharge their batteries, as of next Monday we will give these last seven games all we have got, to try and
