The Harwood knock back meant Hutchings is back at route one when it comes to bolstering his strike-force.

Since taking over from Paul Jewell at the end of last season, Hutchings has added just Antoine Sibierski to his attacking options, whilst also losing Lee McCulloch to Rangers for £2.25million.

According to the Sun, Wigan are pondering a £3.5million bid for the Congolese star, using money earmarked for Harewood.

LuaLua was in and out of Harry Redknapp's side, and is urther down the striking order after Portsmouth's signings John Utaka and Preston striker David Nugent.

With Henri Camara on his way out, LuaLua would be seen as a perfect replacement. However, with the African Nations in January, Wigan would lose LuaLua and Agohawa, leaving Hutchings with just Folan, Sibierski and Emile Heskey up front.
