Liddell, 32, was released by Sheffield United at the end of last season after a fairly successful season with the Bramall Lane outfit.

Former boss Neil Warnock said: "Andy did well for us last season, but by letting him go it will free up some wages to bring in other players."

Liddell left the Latics twelve months ago to join Warnock after his side offered him the security of a two year deal. A deal that has no been honoured.

The former Scotland under 21 international has scored over 100 goals throughout his career and was a firm fans favourite during his tme at the JJB.

Best of luck for the future Lids.
