Lee Nicholls leaves on loan

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Lee Nicholls has joined Bristol Rovers on a three-month loan deal, lasting a total of 93 days.

The 22-year old leaves the Latics after falling down the pecking order at the DW Stadium.

Nicholls was expected to fight for the number one shirt this season with Richard O'Donnell, but the signing of experienced 'keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen has put him out-of-favour with Gary Caldwell.

The one-time England Under 19 international has made 10 senior appearances at Wigan, including starts in the Championship and the Europa League.

However, this is Nicholls' sixth loan spell away from his current club; having previously spent time at Hartlepool United, Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Accrington Stanley and Northampton Town.

He played a pivotal part in helping Northampton to the 2010 League Two play-off final. However, Nicholls was between the sticks as they lost 3-0 to Bradford City at Wembley.
