Latics target former Rovers forward

Shabani Nonda: Wanted
The 30 year old forward managed seven goals from 17(9) apeearances during his spell with the Rovers last season. His best season came in the red and white of Monaco when Shabba managed 26 goals before a serious knee injury the following season meant he missed over twelve months of football.

It has been an uphill struggle for the striker since then to rediscover his form, but there were glimpses during his spell at Ewood that he is about to return to his goalscoring best.

He has five caps for the Democratic Republic of Congo socring one goal. The signing of Nonda would be a welcome addition to the squad with supporters desperately wanting a striker to boost the clubs options up front.

Despite the three impressive performances so far this season, any injury to Emile Heskey, or Antoine Sibierski would leave the squad short of striking options up front with just two players (Julius Aghahowa and Caleb Folan) to cover the striking births.

Rumours linking the Latics with a bid for defender Marcus Williams of Scunthorpe also seem to be wide of the mark with Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins denying any contact with the Latics for the 21 year old left back.

It is expected however that a left back will arrive before the close of the transfer window to complete new manager Chris Hutchings' spending for the summer.
