Latics remain hopeful of Ramis capture

Speaking as soon as Saturday and Ramis wasexpecting to move to West Ham United with the newly promoted outfit believed to be throwing money at the transfer.

The 27 year old Real Mallorca defender said: "I have played my last match for Mallorca because there is a new and very interesting offer for me. Wigan is not the best proposition for me."

It was later revealed that West Ham were the interesting offer putting the Latics firmly in the shade.

A statement on Mallorca's official website read: "Mallorca and West Ham have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ivan Ramis. The Mallorcan defender has the permission of the club to have a medical with what will be his new team."

However a late intervention from Latics boss Roberto Martinez is said to have swung events back in the favour of Wigan Athletic.

Martiinez is very keen to add the vast experience of Ramis to his back line and given his past success with integrating imported stars, it is believed that the Spaniard's are in agreement over Wigan Athletic being the best destination for Ramis.

There has been no comment from the club on the transfer.
