Latics duo ready for Scouse test

It is well known that the Latics have a poor record against the top four clubs, but that was under a different manager and with a very different team. Now it seems that the new players are ready to take all three points away from the Reds.

Antoine Sibierski who has netted three goals since his sumemr arrival from Newcastle told the Wigan Observer: "Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe but we can beat them.

"I know Wigan have never beaten one of hte top four clubs in the Premier League. But we can chance that on Saturday. On a good day we can beat ayone in the league. We have got hte players to do it."

Meanwhile, team-mate and defender Andreas Granqvist echoed Sib's message. He told the same newspaper: "This will be the biggest game that I have ever played in. You don't have to be inspired to play against a club like Liverpool.

"We can definately get something out of the game - hopefully we can win it. I know about Wigan's record against the big four clubs. Hopefully we can put it right this Saturday."

Granqvist, who signed a two year deal with the Latics in the summer, cannot wait to face £21.5 million striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish international forward has been in form since arriving from Althetico Madrid, but Granqvist is confident.

He added: "Fernando Torres is a very good player. I saw him playing in Spain last year and he did really well. He maybe needs a few more games to get to his best for Liverpool, but hopefulyl we can stop him on Saturday.

"But we know it's not just about him. Liverpool have got so many more good players. They've got Steve Gerrard, who is also world class. Every one of our players will need to be at their best for us to get something from the game."
