Latics boss to fight tooth and nail

Latics manager Paul Jewell has suprisingly been charged by the F.A.
A slightly more competent Football Association issued Jewell with a charge of improper conduct earlier today. The charge relates to the manner in which the Wigan manager approached Dowd on the pitch after the match.

Jewell said: "We, as a club, will be fighting this tooth and nail. We owe it to our supporters to fight this, because if I just shrug my shoulders and do nothing when I feel an injustice has been done it would be letting them down.

"I have been overwhelmed with the support I have had from inside the game, big figures who I respect a great deal. They have told me in no uncertain terms that I must take this all the way and that's what I intend to do."

This is not the first time that Paul Jewell has had a run in with the official. He was unhappy with his performance at Highbury last year in the Carling Cup semi-final, and then further more irritated by Dowd's "performance" in our trip to Ewood Park last term.

Jewell is not known for his criticism of referees and is often very supportive of their hard work and tough decisions. However it would seem that the incompetence of Phil Dowd has once again forced the Latics boss to speak his mind.

Meantime centre back Matt Jackson has added support to his manager, he told the daily Star: "It's frustrating for managers when big decisions like that go against you. It was a massive decision to go against us, especially when you are talking about Premiership survival.

"There are a million things that can happen and we're reliant upon decisions like that going our way. There is too much at stake for them to be wrong consistently. It's just how many times those decisions go against the small teams when they visit big clubs like Arsenal.

"We have to take the positives from the game, like our hard work and resilience, but it certainly doesn't make it any easier to swallow when things like that go against you."

Many are also expecting a charge to be announced against what was said by the Latics boss after the game. However this is doubtful as everything the Latics manager said was strictly true.
