Latics agree Valencia Loan Deal

The deal has been agreed in principle, and only a few formalities and a work permit are needed to complete the deal.

The 21-year-old has been capped 19 times by his country Ecuador, and had an impressive World Cup as the South American side proved to be one of the surprise packages of the tournament. As well as playing all three group games, Valencia also played in his countries 1-0 defeat to England.

Although a right-winger by trade, Valencia can also play centre of midfield, he is seen as one of his countries brightest talents, and arguably should ahve been voted best young palyer of the World Cup.

Paul Jewell couldn't hide his delight at capturing the exciting youngster: "Antonio is something new to Wigan. As with most South Americans, he has skill in abundance and combines it with electric pace and a very high work rate. He has played in Europe for a season, and I'm convinced he has the attributes to make a success of the Premiership.

"This is another transfer we have worked long and hard to secure and it speaks volumes for Brenda Spencer, John Benson and Bill Green that we have come up with the goods again."
