Latics agree fee for Francis

The Latics have bid £1.5 million, which has gone down well at Carrow Road and they have given Francis permission to speak with the Latics.

He could move in the opposite direction to Jason Jarrett who joined the Canaries on a free transfer on July 1st when his Latics contract expired.

We revealed on the 19th May (click here for that article) that Francis would be a good addition to the Latics squad, but felt he was a little out of reach.

Paul Jewell would be doing some very good business if he can attract the 26 year old to the JJB and at 6"1, Francis is an imposing player who has a terrific engine and an all important eye for goal. Something that is vital at the top level.

Jewell told the club's official website: "We've agreed a fee with Norwich, and hopefully we can speak to the player on Monday and we'll see if we can sort out a deal.

"He's big, got an eye for goal, and we need competition all over the pitch, so hopefully we can get him and early next week we can tie up the deal."

Whilst the Latics boss confirmed that the Jagielka deal seems to be dead in the water. He is not going to play the bidding game with Sheffield United. Jewell said: "We made a £4million bid to show our intent so we gave them what they wanted, but I don't think they expected that, because they then asked for another million pounds.

"If they don't want to sell him then that's fair enough, but they should have said just that and not told us to pay £4million!".
