He told the club's official website: "I hope our supporters don't think we're all just sat on our backsides twiddling our thumbs because that it certainly not the case. I'm disappointed that we haven't brought anyone in yet and I'd also be disappointed if our fans are disappointed with the club. We want to bring people in and have been trying, but I will not just go out and pay over the odds for someone or bring a player in just for the sake of it.

"We've moved for lots of players so far this season, Scott Parker, Igor Biscan, Darren Fletcher, Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi are just a few of the names we've enquired about either on loan or permanently, but there are probably a hundred more you could add to that list. We will not stop trying, but for whatever reason we have had no luck so far.

"For example, on Tuesday we looked like we had wrapped up a deal to bring Brett Ormerod in on loan until the end of the season but then the situation changed at Southampton and he couldn't come. That sums up the way things have gone for us lately but if people are complaining they should remember that we do actually lie second in the Championship at the moment which isn't too bad is it?

"I have to say that I am under a little bit of pressure here at the moment though because my lad got Wigan into the Premiership on Championship Manager yesterday and therefore I need to try and match that don't I?!! However, that is part of the problem these days, people play these games and ring phone-ins with all the answers but don't actually know what goes on behind the scenes at a real football club. Unfortunately doing the job in real life is a little different from managing on a computer game and anyone that has ever had proper managerial experience will certainly tell you exactly the same thing."
