Landzaat has had plenty of offers this summer, including a proposed move to Spanish club Espanyol, but the prospect of the Premiership seems likely to be a huge factor in his decision process.

The 31 year old midfielder has become an integral part of the AZ Alkmaar team and is currently the captain of a side that has been pushing the top trio of teams in Holland. A second placed finish last season is regarded as a superb achievement.

Wigan have now revealed that AZ have accepted their bid and the player is due for talks in Wigan next week. All this comes despite the news released that Espanyol expected the midfielder to sign for them.

Wigan manager Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "He's a player that I think can make a big impact at Wigan and I hope we can finalise the deal. It is not normal for us to comment on targets before a deal is completed but in this instance the news has already been made public.

"I don't want to say anything more at this stage, only to say we are very hopeful that Denny will become a Wigan Athletic player in the near future."
