Koumas tipped to star this season

After two disappointing seasons with the Latics since his £5.3 million arrival from West Bromwich Albion, Jason Koumas is being tipped by new manager Roberto Martinez to shine this season.

The 35 year old Spaniard is set to give Koumas a starting role in the Wigan Athletic team for Saturday's big kick off at Villa Park and supporters are hoping to finally see the best of Koumas.

Enigmatic Koumas has been capped 34 times by Wales, scoring 10 goals in the process but has fallen out of favour both nationally and at club level after some poor performances and a seeming lack of determination.

However the appointment of Martinez as Wigan manager could well be the catalyst Koumas needs to revive his ailing career. At the age of 29, time is not on his side.

Martinez said: "I've seen that bit of a spark in his eye, he's desperate to play a big part for Wigan, that's good for everyone.

"Technically it would be very difficult to find a better player at Premiership level, he's a magician, his first touch is out of this world. [If right] he'll have a huge impact on the Premiership and... Welsh football.

"He's a huge asset for Wigan Athletic, we all hope that he can enjoy his football and probably take the maturity to perform to the highest of his ability."
