The Baggies accepted Wigans bid late last night, and the Welsh International arrived this morning to put pen to paper on his contract, before joining his new team-mates for training.

For Hutchings, the signing of Koumas is a major coup, for the club and himself. The midfield ace was wanted by many clubs and represents Wigans ambition.

Hutchings said: "I drew up a list of players I wanted on the first day i took over at the club and Jason was on it. To be truthful, he was a player we talked about last season as well and we have been keeping tabs on for some time.

"We knew West Brom would fight tooth and nail to keep him, and so it has proved. Jason is a great player and no club ever wants to lose its best players.

"He is a top quality player capable of making a real difference. He can operate anywhere in the midfield and has the skills to excite a crowd, along with the hunger to prove himself at the highest level again.

"It's a big signing for this club, but it shows that we mean business. Now i'm really looking forward to welcoming Jason to the training field and for him to join the rest of the squad."

In 103 starts, the midfielder scored 23 goals, and was rated the best player outside the Premiership by Four Four Two magazine.

Welcome to Wigan Jason!
