The former Tranmere playmaker has been told to rest the injury during hte international break, and as such has withdrawn from the Wales squad for their fixtures with Cyprus and San Marino.

The rest period could also bring his appearance in Wigan's next game with Portsmouth on the 20th October into doubt.

However his Wales boss, John Toshack is none too impressed. He said: "Jason has had a scan because he has been having discomfort in his thigh. It's a hip and muscle problem that has been worrying him for a while.

"It was important that we saw him for ourselves and had him here to assess the injury so we could make our own decisions about when he could be available for the future. Jason is a key player for us but has missed our qualifying games in Slovakia, Dublin, the Czech Republic and now this trip.

"But I am aware that the injury has become a genuine worry for him, he has been playing and not doing much training. I am disappointed with the situation but now happy in my own mind about his problem.

"I can understand people questioning that he has missed so many away games for us. But we have seen the problem now and he will not be right for our next two games. Of course I would be happy if Jason played in Wigan's next match, it would show he is fit again."
