Kirkland's injury worry

Last updated : 19 October 2009 By Paul Farrington
Kirkland told the Wigan Evening Post: "I'll need to go to hospital to see what's happened, but it doesn't look very pleasant. I wouldn't like to say what it might be, but something needs to be done because I can't even bend my finger.

"I came out for a cross and Adebayor caught me with his arm. It knocked me off balance and the ball's just hit me right on the finger.

"I got the 'clunk' out of it, but then took my glove off and saw it was still bent out of all shape. I knew I hadn't done it right, which is when I called the physio over, and I said to him: 'We've got a bit of a problem'.

"I'm hoping it's just a bad sprain, but it can't stay like this because I won't be able to play with it how it is. It's just not normal."

Hopefully the injury will just be a simple sprain and Kirkland will be fit to face Burnley at the weekend.
