The first-half in particular was one of the worst performances seen at the JJB Stadium, and ended on a sour note, with Rob Hulse somehow squeezing his sot into the top right corner.

Kirkland told the Manchester Evening News: "It just didn't happen for us, we were poor from start to finish and never got into our stride. We have to say sorry to the fans, they deserve better and it was a disappointing performance because we knew we had to win this game."

At least someone has apologised for it. Well done Kirk.
