The 30 year old was formerly with Steve Bruce at Birmingham City before they released him from his contract over the summer.

However, with over 60 full international caps, Kingson will add experience to the squad and is delighted to have joined the Latics.

He said: "Like any player, I just want to play. It's terrific to be back in England. Steve Bruce is a great manager and I'm looking forward to my career at Wigan.

"I know there are two good goalkeepers here already and all I can do is fight for my place and see where that takes me."

Whilst Steve Bruce is pleased to have added cover for both Chris Kirkland and Mike Pollitt following the departure of Carlo Nash to Everton.

Bruce added: "He's a really decent keeper, you don't play nearly 60 times for one of the top 20 nations in the world without having something about you and I think he'll add real competition to the squad here."

Bruce has also appointed Bernard Paintain fom former club Birmingham City. The 63 year old is joining the club on a part-time basis at the end of the month and will add to the scouting department at the JJB Stadium.
