The 18 year old goalkeeper who signed professional terms with the club only last season will play today for Alty against Droylsden in Blue Square Premier League game.

Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Brown is hoping to get some consistency into his Latics play. The former Manchester City and Sheffield United player missed the season's start due to suspension and is happy to have a place in the team.

Brown said: "It was very frustrating the first few weeks. I had a little hiccup missing the games at the start, and then the boys did well so the gaffer had to leave it a little bit longer - it just takes time.

"I think you need four to six games to get settled on the pitch so the fans will get to know what I'm about over the coming weeks."

The 30 year old is pleased with the start the club has had to the season, despite not having faced any of the big boys as yet.

"We've had a good start and it was important to ease the pressure because everybody saw us being at the bottom. It's nice to have a bit of breathing space to give us the confidence and belief to go on," added Brown.

"Everyone's pleased to be in the top half but it's early days and the last few weeks we've hiccupped a bit. We'll just keep going and try to get the results to stay up there. We didn't play well last week so hopefully we can improve on Saturday."
