When asked after yesterday's game with regard to the Repbulic of Ireland international midfielder Paul Jewell told wiganathletic.tv: "I think what the chairman was saying is that he would back me if I want him. I want to speak to the chairman about a lot of people who would improve the squad, but I haven't spoken to him about Roy Keane, the only thing on my mind was this match.

"He's a very good player, although I don't know him at all. I like how he is a winner, and that he's got desire but I don't think today is the day to talk about Roy Keane."

Keane is being strongly linked with a move to Celtic and is said to have received a number of offers from Premiership clubs.

After the failed move for Scott Parker over the summer, Keane fits the bill as far as the Latics boss is concerned and it would be a suprise if Jewell did not move for the 34 year old.

The big question is, can the Latics attract Keane to the JJB? If current form is anything to go by, he'd be joining a club that are better than United.
