Joseph's Goal charity match: Latics Legends 10-0 Hollyoaks

The hugely successful Joseph's Goal charity match finished 10-0 to the Wigan Athletic legends at Edge Green Street.

The Legends took the lead as Nathan Ellington cruyff turned the Hollyoaks full-back before forcing a save from the goalkeeper, former FA Cup winning manager Roberto Martinez tapped in from close range.

Martinez would then turn provider for the second goal of the evening. In the build up the Spaniard sarcastically dove in the box following a good tackle by a Hollyoaks defender, bringing a laugh from the huge attendance.

However, he recovered in time to square it to his former teammate and now assistant manager at Everton Graeme Jones, who finished from just yards out.

Jones would get an assist to his name as well when he picked out Alan Mahon at the back post, who emphatically volleyed the ball into the top corner to make it 3-0. No 'keeper in the world would have stopped it.

And it was soon 4-0 as Neil Roberts found himself one on one, before burying it low under the goalkeeper's body. The Legends weren't finished there because on the stroke of half time, they made it five.

Alan Mahon slotted a beautiful outside of the boot pass through to Jason Jarrett, who took his time before coolly slotting the ball home.

The Legends picked up where they left off in the second half, regardless of making several changes.

The sixth came after the lively Nathan Ellington saw his audacious chip saved well by the Hollyoaks shot-stopper, but the ball fell to Stuart Barlow, who put it back into the danger area for Sean Clancy (brother of Abbey) to head into the empty net.

After having one ruled out for offside and hitting the post with a cheeky back heel, Ellington finally got the goal he deserved and what a goal it was.

The striker took on the whole of the Hollyoaks defence before tucking the ball into the top corner to make it 7-0 to the Legends. You never lose it.

The eighth, ninth and tenth goals came through the new look strike partnership of Barlow and Emmerson Boyce.

Barlow, who was desperate for a goal, picked the ball up on the edge of the box before slotting a left footed shot into the bottom corner for 8-0.

Boycey would then get on the scoresheet with an excellent volley into the bottom corner for nine, which was met by a great ovation from the watching fans.

The tenth and last goal was arguably the best of the evening, as the duo linked up with class. Boyce back heeled into the path of Barlow, who calmly slotted home for his second of the game.

10-0 the final score at Edge Green Street and a great prospect for all. Not only was it a record attendance for Ashton Town, but it was a special day for Joseph because everyone involved helped raise money for a great cause.
