The Swedish international joined the Latics on Tuesday from Djurgarden but is not expected to be part of the team that will face Rotherham on Saturday, due to a lack of match fitness. He has not had a pre-season due to the end of the Swedish season.

He said: "I'm really pleased to be here and very much enjoyed my first training session. I have to say it wasn't that easy because I don't know many peoples names yet and also because the pitch wasn't in the best condition because it was very boggy. However, it was a good run out on my first day and it's already obvious that there are some very good ball players here.

"I have a little way to go yet in terms of my fitness because I haven't done any specific training for about five weeks, but I don't think it will take me long to get up to full speed. In a couple of weeks I should be right where I want to be but I would like to be involved before that if it is possible.

"I don't really know that much about Wigan because they are a club that is growing but I have watched videos of several matches and have been very impressed. There were other teams interested in me before I came here but Wigan were the one that really made me feel wanted and that is what has made me want to join the club. I'm looking forward to my time here and am excited by the prospect of making the move into English football.

"After five or six successful years at Djurgardens I decided the time was right to move elsewhere to develop as a footballer and I'm grateful to Wigan for giving me this chance. I hope to prove to the fans that I am a good signing for the club and I'm confident I can settle well in England and adapt well to football in a different country.

"Back home I played mainly as an attacking midfielder in a 4-3-3 formation which I enjoyed as I was able to get in the box and score goals, but here I think my role may be a little different as I may have to be more defensively minded I think. I can play either role though and am happy to do whatever is asked of me.

"I've had a lot to take in on my first day but it's been nice to see the interest that there is in English football and I can't wait to get my first taste of a real game now. People have told me what a tough league the Championship is and for Wigan to be second therefore we must be a good team. I look forward to getting to know everyone properly now and I also looking forward to showing everyone what I can do when I am able to make my first appearances for the club."
