JJB Stadium made no smoking

Last updated : 08 June 2005 By Paul Farrington
As of next season, the JJB Stadium will be made no smoking to football supporters as the club cracks down on anti-social behaviour.

Supporters will not be allowed to smoke in the seated areas, however, smoking will be permitted on hte concourse.

Club secretary Stewart Hayton said: "There are two reasons behind this [the ban].

"One is the large number of complaints over the last two to three seasons and the other is because the club is moving towards an allocated seating policy.

"In previous seasons, other than the main stand, you could move and change seats at any time. So people had the option if someone was smoking in front of them to move seats - that won't happen now.

"It's only 45 minutes of football and then they can go and have a cigarette.

"Lot's of grounds now have no-smoking policies and we'd like to ask fans to stick to the rules.

"You're not going to be thrown out of the ground but people will be asked by the stewards to go onto the concourse if they want to smoke."
