Jewell's reaction to Hammers defeat

Jewell told the club's official website: "It was almost the worst we could have done scoring that goal. We sat back a little bit and we didn't have time to take advantage. It was just four minutes after when they scored and that obviously gave them a big lift. From then on it was a bit of an open game, and they took their chances."

"I thought it was a bit of a slow game in the first half, and we and some decent chances in the first half, maybe we had a shout for a penalty but I'm not sure, and then once we got the goal, I thought we would go on and win it. But we didn't, we never got a foot hold of the game and we could never take advantage of the goal. We didn't have the lead long enough, and a ricochet in the box has gone against us, and that's given them the lift"

"They've beaten Ipswich at their place, and they've beaten Sunderland at their place, and now they've done it to us - that's the top three. They've got the capabilities to be as good as anyone in this league, I've said that before, unfortunately I think we've just let them back into the game. We dropped deep when we scored instead of taking the game by the scruff of the neck we just thought about it too much."

"I didn't have a good view of the penalty to be honest, Jason [Roberts] said it was a penalty, but some you get and some you don't. there seemed to be a lot of pushing and shoving going on there, it would have been nice but we didn't get it."

"All the lads are disappointed, it's not a nice feeling, but it's still in out hands. If we win all our remaining games from now until the end of the season, then Ipswich cannot catch us. We have to come in tomorrow [Sunday] morning and put this behind us. It's a defeat and I have said all along there are going to be a lot of twists and turns. Tonight it feels horrible for us but we are still in a better position than Ipswich. I'm pleased we're playing Sunderland on Tuesday, it will be a fantastic atmosphere, and a great game to play in."

"Sunderland look as though their home and dry, but Mick [McCarthy] won't be saying that, there's a lot of football to be played, eighteen points to play for, and anything can happen."
