The 35 year old has risen through the division's with the Latics and has firmly established himself amoungst the legend ranks at the club.

His goal on Saturday only confirmed just how important a squad player Jackson is, and manager Paul Jewell has been quick to praise the versatile defender.

Jewell said: "Jacko epitomises what this club has been all about – he has been here since we were in the Second Division, playing in the LDV and things like that.

"He has seen us grow and has been a major part of that. Whatever you ask him to do, he does to the best of his ability, he never moans or if he does, I don't hear or choose not to listen.

"Jacko is an example to all young players of how to conduct themselves on and off the pitch."
