McMillan: Took his chance to impress
Baines - who has played in almost ever game for the club this season for the Latics - was replaced by Steve McMillan. The young full back has looked complacent recently and Jewell took the big step of replacing him with McMillan.

The Scottish full back returned the favour and supplied the cross from which Roberts headed the Latics in front.

Ellington has been relegation to third choice striker after some poor displays. He hasn't been matching strike partner Roberts' determination and work rate. As a result he was relegated to the left flank, taking the place of the injured Lee McCulloch.

Teale made way for Bullard on the right side, after another month of poor performances from the out of confidence right winger.

Jarrett took Bullard's place in the middle of midfield.

The changes made sence and improved the side. A fresh impetus was given and Wigan Athletic are firmly back on the promotion trail.

The Latics' second goal was scored by Alan Mahon, who came on for Ellington. He tapped home a pass from former Cardiff midfielder Graham Kavanagh who seemingly did not want to score against his old club, whom he holds dear.
