Jewell rules out a number of moves

Jewell told the club's official website: "I know we're being linked with quite a few players but I have to say that I don't know where half the stories have come from. Some of the players are certainly ones we've talked about at various stages, but in all honesty we've probably talked about hundreds of players this season and therefore that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

"Of the names I've seen I am willing to say that there isn't really any chance that we will be bringing in Neil Mellor, Momo Sylla or Henrik Pedersen. For starters Mellor is in and around Liverpool's first team and is probably unlikely to move I would think, while Pedersen is undoubtedly a good player but would probably be a bit out of our range wages wise. Certainly at the moment anyway.

"We have also had no contact with anyone about Sylla either and though we have received various phone calls about quite a few players, I don't really know what his situation is up at Celtic at the moment anyway. As I said, I've seen the rumours linking us with these three players but can categorically say to you that we haven't made approahces for any of them.

"We are keen to strengthen as everyone knows and we do have a couple of things in the pipeline at the moment. However, I am not willing to go public with any names because that is not my style and the way I do business. If the story comes out from the other end there is nothing we can do about that because it has happened in the past, but as far as I'm concerned I feel it is only fair to try and conduct your business privately until you actaully have something concrete to report."
