Jewell was one of the busiest managers in the summer, bringing in a total of twelve new players including England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, striker Emile Heskey and Crystal Palace duo Fitz Hall and Emmerson Boyce.

Despite this, Jewell still believes there is room for improvement.

"It's only six or seven weeks before the transfer window reopens and I have both eyes already firmly fixed on recruitment plans," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"We have identified potential targets and we have a few irons in the fire as we look to target certain areas. You've always got to look to improve and you can never be satisfied with what you have."

The Mirror today linked the Latics with Milton Keynes Dons striker Izale Mcleod.
