Jewell on Gillingham defeat

He told the club's official website: "I am disappointed that we did not get something out of the game because I felt we should have done, but credit to Stan's side, they were more clinical in front of goal than we were and won the game fair and square.

"They made it very difficult for us and their front two caused us problems in the second half after Stan changed things a bit. Credit to him for the substitution and, as I said on the day, if they continue to perform like that they should have more than enough to avoid relegation. The Priestfield Stadium is always a difficult place to go and that was proved once again on Saturday.

"What we must do now is aim to bounce back from Saturday's defeat when we take on Ipswich at the JJB this weekend and that is already a game that everyone here is really looking forward to. We will prepare for it just as we do every other game that we play and though outsiders will try to make a lot of the result on Saturday, we are all aware that there is still an awful long way to go yet this season, no matter who comes out on top at the weekend."
