Injury to Paul Scharner and the pending suspension of Lee McCulloch will hit the squad hard with games coming thick and fast. It was vital that we get bodies into the squad as cover.

Jewell said: "With so many games coming in the next couple of weeks, and one or two injuries and suspensions hitting, I felt it was important to get another body in the squad.

"I always saw Tomasz going to Oldham simply as a way of helping him get some first twam experience, and although he hasn't featured in all the games, I think he will have gained from the experience of being in a first team squad."

Cywka himself was delighted to be back at Wigan, he told the club's official website: "I knew all along coming to England was a long term plan for me, and I have to be patient. I am learning all the time about the English game and I enjoyed the atmoshpere at Oldham, it was good for me. But if the manager thinks I am perhaps able to play a part at Wigan, then of course, that is what I want to do first.

"I have come to England to hopefully establish myself in the Premiership. I am abitious but I also know I have to be patient."

The Polish under 19 international also had some kind words for former striker Andy Liddell, not plying his trade with Oldham. Cywka added: "Andy is a great player and he was very helpful. He is playing on the right wing at the moment, but he did remind me that he was leading scorer at Wigan too. He is a very friendly guy and I think it helped that he still has Wigan in his heart because he made me feel wlecome!"
