Jewell on Brighton victory

Jewell commented:"It's a good result for us but to be honest I've just given the players a bit of a pasting because I was not happy with our second half performance. We set high standards here and I thought that in the second half we fell short of what we expect and I've let the players know that. I know it was hard because the game was more or less won at half time, but we need to put performances in for 90 minutes and not just relax after 45 if we think the job is done.

"Having said all that, I was really pleased with the way we started the game and the opening period couldn't have gone much better to be honest. We scored four fine goals and could have had several more and looked really threatening. It was nice to see Jimmy Bullard, Lee McCulloch and Gary Teale on the score-sheet but I was also pleased that Jason Roberts got his goal because I thought he was outstanding in the first half. He was a real threat and had too much pace and power for the Brighton defenders before half time.

"At four nil the game was over but to then let in two poor goals was not really good enough. Although we were never in any danger of throwing away our lead, we did though make it harder than it should have been and that's why I'm a bit deflated. In the cold light of day I'll probably be happier but at the moment my feeling is one of slight frustration.

"However, this is another important win for us especially when you consider that Sunderland and Ipswich have both won again. We will not worry about the other teams though, we will just concentrate on getting our own results and looking after ourselves. That's all we can influence so we wll just focus on that.

"I'm pleased to pick up all three points and hope that the players are given some credit for winning what was a potentially awkward fixture. Despite winning on Saturday, we seemed to make more headlines for me not attending the post match press conference and sending my assistant Chris Hutchings instead. It was strange because Dennis Wise sent in Ray Wilkins but no-one was having a pop at Millwall as far as I'm aware.

"We will not get involved in what some people are writing about us and to read some things you would think that there is disharmony within our camp and that couldn't be further from the truth. We are a humble club and humble people here but people seem to have a problem with us competing at the top of the Championship table because we do not get the biggest crowds and do not have a long and illustrious history.

"There's nothing we can do if those things bug people but we will just keep ploughing on and try to complete the job we are trying to do. We are going to give the match at Forest our full concentration now - I am going to watch them against Leeds - and having picked up six points out of six points so far this week, we will go to the City Ground on Saturday looking to make it nine out of nine."
