He said: "It's not time to put me in a straight jacket! I want to put the record straight and tell it from my point of view.
"I don't want people to think I couldn't and can't take the pressure. I've done it with Bradford and now Wigan and I could do it all over again. But the main thing is is this.
"I want to be a normal person again. I want to be in a normaly family and to do the things that normal people do.
"I was losing my heart and my soul. I needed a break. I was taking things out on my family - but it was not serious. After the chairman's comments friends rang me and said they never realised it was as bad as that!
"People must have thought I was being put into a straight jacket, but I was not cracking up! It was no more than the way people in high pressure situations would react."
The 43 year old also had a message of support for former assistant, and new boss Chris Hutchings, Jewell added: "I am confident Chris Hutchings will do a great job. He is the right man to continue the success story."
