Jewell confirms bid for Heskey

After a fantastic first season in the Premiership, Wigan are hoping to build on their current squad and are hoping to add at least one striker to their current squad.

Birmingham striker Emile Heskey is one of Jewells top targets after the midlands outfits relegation to the Championship.

Jewell said: "Emile is a proven performer at Premiership and international level. We have made what we consider to be a very good offer to Birmingham City."

"It is not normal for this club to comment on targets until the player has signed, but, in this instance, it's an open secret that we've made the bid."

The 28-year-old hitman scored just five goals in his 43 caps for England, and scored just five goals last season, albeit in a struggling side.

Jewell also commented on the Robbie Savage situation, and has admitted that any move for the Welsh midfielder is doomed to fail.

"We did ask Blackburn about Robbie through the correct channels because he's a player who i think would be a good addition to the squad."

" But Blackburn said he was not for sale. That's as far as the conversation went."
