Jewell after Barton

Joey Barton
Barton has fallen out of favour at the City of Manchester Stadium after an incident on the club's pre season tour where hit bit fellow team mate Richard Dunne.

City boss Pearce immediately sent the player on a plane home to England and is reviewing the situation.

Should the Laser Blues choose to sell the midfielder, Paul Jewell would more than likely be chasing him.

However he has dismissed any link between the player and a move to Wigan.

The Latics boss said: "Barton is obviously a good player.

"I don't know what's gone on over there. He is a good player but not one I've thought of at the moment."

Meanwhile, Tottenham's Michael Brown has again been linked with a move to the JJB. He was said to be out-of-favour at White Hart Lane with the North London club chasing Guti from Real Madrid.

Neither side is yet to comment on this one.

Another rumour which the Latics have not confirmed is a move for Wolves' striker Carl Cort. The former Wimbledon and Newcastle front man has found his feet again after a dreadful time with injuries and has rumoured to be the subject of a £2 million Latics bid.
