The former Cardiff City striker is said to be a target of Bruce's alongside Necaxa froward Rodagella Martinez as the Latics manager looks to strengthen his forward line.
It is believed that both Antoine Sibierski and Henri Camara are free to leave in January, despite the latter's impressive recent from.
Meanwhile, there is no news on the Heskey front with the England frontman's hamstring injury hampering any potential move.
Without doubt the Latics are hoping he choses to remain at the JJB and Bruce confirmed the club are yet to receive a bid for the frontman.
He said: "We have no idea yet how long Emile is going to be out but he will definitely not play against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Friday night.
"The good thing is that we have had no bids for him, or anyone else for that matter, and I just hope that continues all through January."
Bruce also confirmed that reports of Real Madrid's interest in winger Antonio Valencia have not been supported by a firm bid from the Spanish club.
"I've told Antonio it is all speculation as we haven't had any bid. The big clubs are constantly watching us and this shows what good players we have at Wigan," added Bruce.
