Jarrett: Not happy with the offer that is on the table
Jewell has made Jarrett a good offer of three years on a fair salary. However the midfielder is unhappy with the performance related pay structure in force at the JJB.

The structure, which is believed to be the brain child of chairman and owner Dave Wheland means that the players earn a maximum of £12,000 a week basic with and extra £8,000 available to those who are active members of the first team.

Jarrett, who is unlikely to be on the maximum salary, believes he may spend periods of the upcoming season on the bench and so was looking for a bigger basic salary.

He told the Wigan Observer: I'm not happy with the deal at Wigan. I want to stay at the club, but everything has got to be right for me.

"As far as I'm concerned I'm entitled to speak to other clubs and that's what my agent is doing.

"My preferred option would be to play in the Premiership with Wigan, but that is not the be all and end all.

"A three-year deal is a long time and it's got to be right for me and my family.

"I wouldn't say I was under pressure to get my future sorted.

"I know I'll have a few options if I don't get this sorted at Wigan, but I'm hoping we can reach an agreement and I can stay here."

Jewell knows that no other Premiership club will move for his out of contract players and they are unlikely to get better money elsewhere.

Gary Teale and Steve McMillan are also believed to be unhappy with the pay structure and are considering their options.
