The club captain has seen his appearances this season restricted, but where else would he have had the chance to perform in from of a full house at Old Trafford and grounds of such a calibre.

The arrivals of Paul Scharner and Stephane Henchoz has seen Jackson move down the pecking order, although many would hold him as third choice.

The former Evertron and Norwich defender however is looking only at the positives and is unsure what the future may hold.

Jackson said: "It's been a fabulous time, we've done fantastically well and the league position shows what we have accomplished in that respect. The fact we've been to a major final has been superb, we are still trying to be competitive for that European place now, with eight games to go.

"Obviously, I would like to play for as long as I can, I keep myself nice and fit and I've really enjoyed being around here. My contract here is up in the summer and we'll see what that brings, but I'm sure I can carry on playing in some capacity and just see where my life takes me.

"I get on great with everybody here at management and board level, there is no issue in that respect. I would love there to be an offer, I would love to stay but as I say, we will wait and see. If it comes out that there needs to be a different opportunity somewhere else then so be it."

The future is unclear for Jackson, but there is no doubt that despite his ageing legs, he will not be short of offers for next season and many Latics fans would love to see him stay.
