Injury woe for Taylor

Taylor has had a horrific time with injuries since signing for Wigan from Tranmere two years ago. He broke his foot in the Premiership, then broke his leg whilst playing for the reserves against Newcastle.

Despite another set-back, Taylor and Hutchings hope a sustained period of rest will get the right-back fully fit for the new season, and help avoid the need for surgery.

Hutchings said: "Ryan is having a problem with his ankle and it's been agreed that he rests so hopefully this will do the trick, he's been very unlucky with injury."

Taylor made a terrific comeback from injury last season, memorably scoring a free-kick which beat Newcastle, as well as becoming first choice on the right hand side of the team.
