Heskey in action against Newcastle at the weekend
The injury to Frank Lampard has given Heskey his chance to reutrn to the international fold after consisten top draw performances for the Latics.

Hutchings said: "I think he always expected to get back in the set-up. We've got hungry players at our football club. Emile epitomises that and he's still got the hunger and desire to play for England and show them what he can do again.

"In my opinion, Emile should be in that England squad. He's given excellent performances in the first few games of the season and with the injuries they [England] have got, there's no reason why he shouldn't be playing.

"He leads by example and we all know the other players in the England set-up rate him very, very highly and like to play with him. No matter what, he doesn't shirk responsibility. He's a team man, whenever he goes out there he's going to give 101 per cent and you can't ask any more from any player when they put that England shirt on.

"We always think he can score more goals and he may feel that himself. What we've got to make sure at Wigan is we give him that opportunity. At this moment in time, he's playing very well. He scored against Sunderland and I'm sure that's given him plenty of confidence. He's had 43 caps so he's been there, seen it and done it, so I have every confidence in him performing at the highest level."

Further weight to Heskey's case was added to by Newcastle striker Michael Owen who has reportadly asked Steve McClaren to let him play up front alongside Heskey against Israel at the weekend.
