Hutchings on Baines departure

Baines: Gone
Baines this week left for a fee of just £5 million, only one week after Sunderland's bid of £6 million.

It would appear that new boss Hutchings has allowed Baines to leave as he adds his stamp to the Wigan Athletic squad.

Hutch told the club's official website: "Bainsey is a quality player and it has been my privilege to see him come up through the ranks at Wigan and mature into a first class professional. Naturally, I would like to have kept him, because he is a fantastic player who will bring a lot to any team he plays for, but at the same time, I understand the reasons he has gone.

"We have spoken at length this summer and the club has done everything it can to try and keep him here. But he was honest with me and said he wants a fresh challenge, having spent his whole career with us, and I respect his honesty."

It is now expected that the Latics will renew their interest in West Brom full back Paul Robinson and offer an improved pay-as-you-play deal to the Baggies after Robinson's failed medical.
