Holt set for Latics return

Thirty-three year old Holt was frozen out of the first team affairs by Uwe Rosler as the striker refused to move closer to Wigan and instead chose to live in Cumbria, where he grew up.

The former Norwich City man has spent the past two months on loan with Huddersfield Town where he has received impressive reviews.

With the managerial change at the DW Stadium it would appear Holt's fortunes with the club may have shifted as Mackay runs the rule over his entire squad.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, he said: “We’ll have to clear up the terms of the existing loan deal, I’m not too sure on the details. But Grant Holt is absolutely a Wigan Athletic player, make no mistake about that.

“He is someone I don’t know personally, but I do know through my connections at Norwich City – with both of us having played down there – how well he did for them and overall in his career.

“There’s an understanding from me of what he brings in terms of goalscoring ability, and he’s still a Wigan player, very much so.”

With the Latics struggling for goals this season, the misfiring of new signings Andy Delort and Oriol Reira, the return of Holt could initiate a revival of our striking fortunes.
