... went over awkwardly on his ankle in the 5-3 victory over Blackburn. First fears were that the England frontman had re-broken the metatarsel that kept him out for two months.

However Heskey did take a harsh twist of the ankle and faces a race to be fit for Fulham on Saturday.

Manager Steve Bruce will no doubt be pleased with the news after scans revealed only minimal ligament damage and no broken bones.

Heskey could well line up with Marcus Bent to face the Cottagers in a relegation six pointer. Both Bent and Heskey have looked dangerous since forming their partnership up top against Manchester City.

He said: "It is not too bad and it is actually better than we feared. I had a scan straight after I came off to make sure it was not broken or anything. It is better than I thought so hopefully in a week or so it will be okay."

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez is under increasing pressure at the Cottage as he fights to keep Fulham in the Premiership.

Tickets for the game with Fulham are still available from the JJB Stadium ticket office priced at £30 for adults and £20 for concessions. Under 17's cost just £5.
