Latics Record signing Emile Heskey
Heskey won the last of his 43 England Caps two-years ago, as substitute in the 2-1 defeat by France in the Euro 2004 group game.

But the powerful forward, Wigan's record signing at £5.5million, insists he has "never retired from England."

"I still have ambitions to play for England again because I know I can still bring something to the game. Hopefully I can now play well for Wigan and push for an England call-up." said Heskey.

Despite a dissapointing season during Birminghams relegation to the Championship last term, Jewell believes Heskey can still make a contribution to the England squad.

"If we can get him back to his best then there's no reason why he cannot play for England again."

"He has all the attribute to be as good a centre forward in England as anybody."

"There is nothing more fearsome a sight for a defender than Emile Heskey coming towards you." enthused Jewell.
