Heskey says he is ultra confident in repaying the faith that Paul Jewell has shown in him, after breaking the bank to bring him to the JJB Stadium.

Speaking on Friday when unvielded to the national media, Heskey said: "I know what I'm capable of doing on a football field. I've had big price tags on my head before, and really it doesn't bother me. All i can do is concentrate on doing the business on the pitch, working my hardest for the team and doing my best for Wigan Athletic."

On claiming the number 9 shirt, he added: "I'm happy the number 9 shirt is free, it's always a good number for a striker!"
