Heskey happy with Wigan

Heskey told the Wigan Evening Post: "There's been speculation about my future. Chris Kirkland sent me about 200 texts the other week when I was away with England asking if there was any truth I was leaving.

"I just told him, 'I'm with England, I'm going nowhere', that's all there was to it. The manager and chairman both spoke to me last month about the situation.

"When I spoke with the chairman he said he'd had offers for me but until I went to him and told him I wanted to leave, he wouldn't entertain anything. I had no intention of doing that, and that's where we left things. I'm happy here and you get the best out of yourself when you are happy.

"These are good times to be at Wigan. We are moving forward - the chairman and manager have both stipulated we must move forward. Dave Whelan has put his money where his mouth is and really backed the manager, and now I think we are starting to reap the benefits."

The England international striker is also enjoying his time with the national team and has been impressed with the managerial talents of new boss Fabio Capello. "Things are going well with England," added Heskey.

"We put in a good all-round performance against Croatia. You could see why they had been unbeaten at home for 40-odd games...it's an intimidating place and they pass the ball very well.

"But we really got after them, used the ball well, that was the main thing which got us the victory. Capello has impressed me, he's been really good.

"He is the kind of coach who will tell you if you've done something wrong - it doesn't matter who you are. A lot of managers will pull you to one side to tell you that. Capello will tell you in front of everyone, which is fine by me."
