The 32-year-old defender previously played for Rovers between 1997 and 1999, and got relegated with the Lancashire outfit. He then moved onto Liverpool and hada spell at Celtic prior to his one season with Wigan.

Henchoz was a regular first-teamer during the first half of last season, his partnership with Arjan De Zeeuw one of the key aspects that saw Wigan go second for a brief spell.

His time at Wigan soured however, and despite regaining his spot in the first team after injuries to De Zeeuw and Jackson, and performing admirably, Jewell beleived he did not warrant a renewed contract and released the former Swiss International.

The experienced Henchoz has signed a one-year-deal with Mark Hughes team, and will bolster a defence which has been depleted due to injuries to Ryan Nelson and Andy Todd.
