Guess who begins

Ironically, bookmakers Coral have former manager Paul Jewell at the top of the list to become the next Latics boss. Despite his success in guiding the club to the top flight and then surviving, twice, it is widely believed that Jewell got out at the right time after a swarm of poor signings and a disintigrated team moral.

Gary Johnson
The ship now seems even more unsteady with the club in the relegation zone and in need of a manager who can guide them to safety on a limited budget.

Somewhat suprisingly is the absence of managers such as Gary Johnson, Roberto Martinez and Paul Ince. A trio who have worked well in the lower leagues.

In particular, Gary Johnson is long overdue a shot in the Premiership after he guided Yeovil to League One from non-league.

Amoung the names that Latics fans want to steer clear of the JJB are Graeme Souness, David O'Leary and Glenn Hoddle. A trio of ex-players who can't seem to understand the management stuff.

Odds to become next Latics manager

Paul Jewell - 2/1

Joe Royle - 16/1
Glenn Hoddle - 20/1
Frank Barlow - 20/1
Martin Jol - 20/1
Peter Reid - 20/1
Aidrian Bothroyd - 33/1
