The powerful defender has gained valuable experience during his time with Terry Butcher's side and scored his first goal in a 2-1 win over Aberdeen just a few weeks ago.

Speaking about his time with Inverness, Golobart told the Scotsman: “The work the staff at this club have been doing with me is amazing. I feel like I’ve improved so much. Even people from Wigan who have come to watch our games agree.

“There has been a lot of improvement because I’m receptive to it – I’m always trying to learn. We all makes mistakes and with every one you can improve."

Whilst Latics boss Roberto Martinez was equally pleased with the extension. He told the club's official website: "It's the perfect situation for Roman to continue his development in a competitive league such as the SPL.

"We have and we will continue to monitor his progress carefully and will look forward to welcoming him back in the summer as a much more experienced professional."

Golobart is tipped for a big future in the game and has represented Spain at under 17 international level.
