The youthful duo were both loanees for Northampton in the 2012/13 season and both players became friends after living in the same hotel.
Speaking the club's official website about Huws, Nicholls said: “He’s left footed and his technical ability is superb.
“Watching him play at Northampton, he made everyone around him feel comfortable because players knew he would find them with a pass every time; I was very impressed.
“He played on the left, through the middle and even just behind the striker and every game he played well.”
The 20 year old midfielder is highly rated and should be a great addition to the Latics squad for for forthcoming six months,
